How the tools work

Drawing

Click near the start dot to close. Drag any dot to slide it, double-tap a dot to delete it — even while still drawing. New facets can start on an existing dot to share a corner. Type a length any time — trade notation: 20.9 = 20′9″, 9.10.5 = 9′10½″ — and Enter places the corner.

Build Roof — marking the outline

Draw the outline, mark the edges, then Build. Rectangles, L, T and U shapes work. Gable end: mark that end Rake — the ridge runs to it. Step-down / bump in the same plane: mark the drop edge(s) Rake — the slope runs out over it (no valley). Shed / lean-to that butts a wall: mark the wall edge(s) Headwall — the roof slopes away from them, with a hip where two headwalls meet. Trickier outlines drop into Edit mode to finish by hand.

Measured lengths

For field jobs taped on the slope. Lengths & areas are used exactly as drawn; when a rake or sidewall is marked, its tape number shortens to plan and the corners square themselves. Eaves, ridges and headwalls are level — tape already equals plan there.

Dormers

Build the roof first. Click the dormer's front corner on a slope (front = toward the eave), then the opposite corner — a gable gets its ridge & valleys drawn; a hip gets an eave face, hips & valleys (box depth = where the ridge ties in); a shed uses the whole box with the tie-in across the top. Drag a valley-start ring up the slope to grow side eaves. Click a blue number to type the exact distance. Pitch blank = same as the roof — except a shed, which must be flatter.

Tracing a kick (pitch break)

Draw the big facet dot to dot, mark its lines and type its pitch. Then ✎ Edit roof lines → ✏ Draw line → Transition → click the two ends on the facet's sides (or ═ Level line and type the distance up from the eave) → ✓ Done. The bigger piece keeps the number and pitch; type the kick's pitch in its card. Nothing else on the roof changes, and no dot moves. A red facet number means its shared lines disagree; its card names the line.

Tape measure

Click a start point, click a direction, then type the exact length to drop a + mark. Each + becomes a snap point, so you can step the other way off it.

Areas

Sloped area = plan area × pitch multiplier. The pitch only stretches the up-slope run; the width along the ridge/eave is unchanged.
